For me, there is nothing more satisfying than the crisp, metallic, "snap" sound of Shimano SIS downtube shifters; particularly the late 80's/early 90's Dura-Ace 7400 series.

I have a sound I like and one I don't like, and one when I'm sleeping while bike camping.

I like the sound of birds, it's very peaceful.

I hate the sound of growling and barking coming up behind me!

I can sleep extremely soundly outdoors at night; the bugs and critters just lull me to sleep as will rain and a good thunderstorm.

The sounds of children playing as you ride by.  And the sound of them cheering you on.

I love the songs of birds, particularly the chittery “conversations” among a group of finches flitting by.

The rustling of tall grass.  Birds.  Especially the screech of a hawk overhead.  Cows mooing in the distance.  At night in the tent, the sound of owls.  Had a fine minute conversation with one on a limb right above my tent a few years ago.  Neither of us understood what the other was hooting about.

I recall hearing a wolf howl while stealth camping near Smithers, BC.  Of course I howled back.

My personal favorite is when I'm riding my bicycle through the forest and crushing small branches, hearing *pock* *pock*. It's so satisfying for me; nothing can beat it. Maybe just going full speed downhill, but they are pretty close.

My favorite sound is blissful silence. I oil and plug in deep my swimmers ear plugs to shut out the extremely offensive and very loud blasts from illegally modified exhaust systems. The plugs work miracles for preserving nervous health.

That's a cool sound. I camped next to a wolf preserve in NJ, near the Atlantic Coast route.  The wolves started howling at dawn, while I was still in my tent.

What if they huff and puff and blow your tent down?

On some long bicycle tours, 2800 miles, You could always find about 10 cassette tapes and a player in my handlebar bag. There were sounds for sure. A lot of 1960s--1970s rock music. Rebel ballads of the Irish Republican Army were big with me for a long time. Plenty of self hypnosis tapes.  Even a small radio was fine, one frequency for music and entertainment, another for talk and news. Quite a few times with the ear phones in, tuned to FM, I would pass through towns with radio stations playing the oldies. Traveling at 10 mph that was several long blasts from the past.

After a long time on the road, vehicles passing by begin to sound like jet aircraft taking off.  I worked on the flight line at a US Air Force Base in Germany. I know the sound very well.  I was there at the release of the American hostages from Iran. I met President James Carter and Secretary of State Musky.  That  air-friction noise can get very irritating. The more thoroughly you can shut it out, the better it would be for your hearing and your central nervous system.

Reminds me of the old Steven Wright joke:  "When I was in college, my friend and I drove across the country. We only had one tape and we listened to it over and over.......  I can't remember what it was."

The staccato taps of light to medium rain on a poly-tarp suspended between two trees and staked to the ground in an A-frame was a sound that put me to sleep fast.
