Souther Tier W to E or E to W
« on: December 26, 2021, 12:01:36 pm »
Hello,
we are planning to start riding at the end of January.
Our first idea was to start from San Diego as many people, but I prefer to start from St. Augustine because roads are more flat at the beginning of the journey and we will arrive to the NM mountains in springtime, but I have a doubt about prevailing winds, which is the best direction?
Many thanks.
The bicycle is my drugs

It might be a bit better W>E than E>W.  If going westbound, the winds are typically out of the north or south (depending on fronts) until you get to around El Paso.  Then depending on where you are at in what month, the winds tend to be more westerly OR easterly (depending on the month) until you get further west when you get.

I would suggest you check out WeatherSpark.com and determine what direction is best for you based on when you think you will be where.
