Washingto Parks Rt

Planning bike trip in mid sept. starting in Seattle up to Hwy. 20 over Wash./Rainy Pass to Winthrop south on Hwy. 153??
We want to eventually connect to U.S. 2 to Spokane. I know what to expect till Winthrop, I've ridden that before. I will
be staying in motel/hotel this trip. My question is  how is Hwy 153 & U.S. 2 to ride shoulders, traffic, motels along the way.
Any info. would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

How will you be connecting to US 2? HWY 153 terminates in Pateros at HWY 97. You have two options…. HWY 153 —> HWY 97 —> US 2 vis Orondo or HWY 153 —> HWY 173 —-> HWY 17 —-> HWY 174—> US 2 via Brewster/Grand Coulee.

The second option is the most direct way.

Another option would be to stay on US 20 all the way to Usk and then start heading South to Spokane.

Either way, I cycled extensively while going to grad school in Pullman and would be happy to help if you clear up your intended route a tad :)

Thanks for your reply. 30 yrs. ago we rode Hwy. 20 across Wa. to Missoula. I remember it to be a butt buster. I am not as strong a rider as I once was. We would like to keep it between 50 - 70 mi/day. We would like to stay in hotels/motels each night as long as they are not to expensive. End up in Spokane to fly home. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey Scott. For what you’re looking for I would recommend a 4 day ride between Winthrop and Spokane

Day 1: Winthrop —> Brewster 50 miles
Day 2: Brewster —> Coulee City 55 miles (Connection to US 2 in Coulee City)
Day 3: Coulee City —> Davenport 60 miles
Day 4: Davenport —> Spokane 40 miles

Towns are pretty sparse in Eastern Washington so these would be your best bets for hotels within your mileage. A 3 day ride would either require longer (80+) days or some camping.
