Tandem for blind stoker
« on: February 15, 2022, 12:06:22 pm »
My friend Gary and I are going to do the southern tier route (San Diego-Saint Augustine), starting March 2023. Gary is legally blind, but can see distinct edges within a 15' radius in normal daylight settings and can read large font on an iPad. We did RAGBRI 2018 on a rented tandem, but for this trip I want to purchase a tandem, hopefully staying within a budget of $2,000, but will consider paying more for the right bike. Additionally we will have a support vehicle accompanying us most days, so the amount of gear we will have to carry will be minimal. I've been looking online, and there are some bikes out there that seem appropriate, but if anyone has any leads on a good tandem for this trip it would be much appreciated! Gary (stoker) is 5'10" and I'm 6'1" and I live in San Diego. I'm willing to travel to pick up the right bike, or pay for shipping. Thanks in advance for any info you might have for me, Cheers!

Go to the tandemathobbes google group. They have a blind stoker who posts on a regular basis.
