Wind on southern tier tomorrow
« on: March 28, 2022, 11:18:08 pm »
Greetings.  I’m in Marfa.  There are high wind warnings for tomorrow.  I had wanted to have long day to make it to Sanderson, which is 110m but much downhill.  Seems 15mph at dawn but then 30mph by 1.  Wind Direction is either coming from south or southeast.  Biking is mostly east.  Hate to wait it out as it may be two days.  Any thoughts?   Thanks.

I would take a rest day or a short day to Marathon.  I personally hate strong headwinds.  If you decide to go, head out as early as possible, i.e. barely light out.  This will less the difficulty but definitely not eliminate it.  If you are going 100+ miles into a 25+mph headwind, that is one tough day.

Last time I rode Hwy 90 there was a lot of chip seal.  Texas seems to love the stuff.  It made riding slower.  Add the headwind and you will have a VERY long day.
