Pacific Coast Route: Parking in Crescent City
« on: September 22, 2022, 12:43:15 pm »
I am going to be riding Astoria to Crescent City in a week or so. I have sorted parking in Astoria but I would prefer to park in Crescent City so that I can rent a car and get the transportation part out of the way before the ride and then just cycle back to my vehicle.

I have not heard back from the visitor center yet. One thought is to park at the airport where the car rental is. Curious if anyone has done similar or has any local knowlege.

Depending on the location where I need to do exactly what you are doing, I have used a WarmShowers, a church, a fire department, a hotel, an airport parking lot, a bike shop, and a Walmart (do not recommend for more than just 2-3 nights).  As a matter of fact, I was going to use the airport for my upcoming Atlanta to Charleston tour before I found a WarmShowers host.

For all locations if a formal fee is not required (like an airport parking lot), I donate some money, give a gift, or buy something as a thanks.  I PERSONALLY spend about $5-$10 per night on non-formal locations.  Of course, you do not have to give anything but I personally feel I should as a thanks and so the next cyclist has a good chance of getting parking.

Hope you have  a great trip!  Tailwinds, John

The visitor center helped be find a couple solutions. Avis will let me park as I'm renting a vehicle and a hotel that I would stay at on each end of trip.
