Transamerica trip
« on: July 05, 2022, 06:06:55 pm »
Hello everyone,
I’ll be starting out on the transamerica route this afternoon from Portland, OR. I already went over to the coast and back, I’m planning on making my way down to Eugene and picking up the established route there and seeing if I can’t make it to Virginia by September! If anyone else is headed the same way and wants to ride together for a while please let me know, I’d love some company. I’m a 27 year old dude, this is my first bike tour but I’m in decent shape and hoping to set a healthy pace. Hope to see you out there!

I would not be going on a trip like that with you, but I wish you the best of luck. At your age you should go across that trail like a breeze. They say the TA is America's premier bicycling route. I think the Pacific coast route is the premiere, and if it were not for all the traffic in summertime I suppose that might be true. There are many journals and videos online by people who did the TA. They all had a great time. Nothing is perfect and sometimes things don't go the way you want. It should be a great ride. I think you should post here occasionally and let people know how it is going.

Hey Andrew, are you planning on video taping your trip and downloading them onto YouTube? I have been binge watching a few people do it (Redeeming Eden, Al and his buddies and then Sarah Dickey and her group). I absolutely am hooked on watching their trip.
If not, I hope you have a great time and safe travels.

Hi Cycling Community,

My friend and I are graduate students in Environmental Management and are looking to complete our "internship" requirement by biking across the country this coming summer. We are searching for ways to best sell this trip as a professional, internship-like endeavor. My question for you all is, are there any ideas anyone may have for how to pitch this trip? Some ideas we've come up with are (the first 3 are definitely the forerunners as of now):

- Interview folks along the way about their connection to place and their environment
- Do a podcast on our journey
- Write a blog/vlog about the trip
- Follow & document localized environmental protests happening along the route
- Document environmental organizations along the way & maybe help in some small capacity
- Interview alumni from our school, documenting the work they do

Please let me know if you can help in this regard, and if not, if you know of any organizations or people we can speak to about this.

Would very much appreciate any help whether in regards to trails to take, people to speak to, organizations to correspond with, etc.

Cheers,
Danny
