Great Divide Elk Valley Trail
« on: July 14, 2022, 03:24:14 pm »
I just completed the GDMBR and would like to comment on the Elk Valley Trail from Elko to Elkford in the Canada Section. The route is marked as a bike path with little round dots. It should be marked as single track. The 100 mile trail is poorly maintained with downed trees and washed out bridges. Navigation and finding trail markers can be challenging. Unlike the bike trail from Banff to Canmore (that has the same dotted marking) the EVT is no picnic.

I have read there have been logging operations between Elko and Sparwood.  Does your description also apply to the section between Sparwood and Elkford?  The old route followed the road (43) not the trail. Thanks!  Heading up that way next month.

Between Sparwood and Elkford the southern section of the trail abruptly ended at a gravel pit operation. I opted out of the northern section. I’d highly recommend purchasing the gps file. Prepare for mosquitoes.
