WiFi in Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky?

This summer, my wife and I are cycling along the TransAm.
From Pueblo, CO to Louisville, KY, we're wondering about availability.

of cellular service and wifi in that route We are sure to have
some mobile services But what do you find there with wifi?

Most libraries, Subways, Walmarts, McDonalds, etc. have wifi.  That said, you don't mention what cell carrier you use.  Verizon is probably the best in rural areas nationwide but ATT is probably a bit better in this part of the country.

Consider how challenging a schedule you are planning.  I went with an Adventure Cycling group and daily mileages were high.  I had no time to stop on the way and check email, etc.  I did all of my computer work in camp.  So the next question is, are you staying in motels or camping?  Motels mostly have wifi (though it is usually slow and unreliable).  Campgrounds usually don’t, or only have it at specific places like the office or rec room.

I tried to make a blog/journal every day, to keep in touch with family.  This was important to me. My recommendation is to enable a smart phone as a wifi hot spot.  Then any time you have cell coverage, you will have internet.  (You can use local wifi whenever it is available to minimize your data charges.)  We had cell service most nights.  The places without cell were the remote ones: forest service camps, tiny towns, places that only had one carrier that wasn’t mine, desert areas, etc.

Depending on your service plan, if you need relatively consistent and daily connection to the internet, cellular service should be your Wi-fi.

For Verizon, only a little spottiness outside of Eminence and Scenic rivers area of SE Missouri.

That said, you should check coverage for your speficic plan and address any questions you have about mobile Internet connections with them.
