Winds seem to be a fact of life crossing Kansas.  Any wind outside of 30-45 degrees off a direct tailwind feels like a headwind.  So you'll feel like you're fighting headwinds most of the way.  Either direction.

On the flip side, a strong south wind blows the disruption created by some eastbound trucks across the road, and a westbound rider will feel like you're riding into a wall of wind when they pass.

Kansas is the only place I’ve ever been blown off the road by vehicle buffeting.  Strangely, I was westbound and the gust from an eastbound truck did it.  The extra tall cattle trucks were the worst.

I really do not like those trucks.  They produce a LOT of turbulence!

The cattle feed lots.  You definitely want to be upwind of those as much as possible.  I once had a dead south tailwind while riding dead north and passed a massive feedlot.  The air stunk for probably at least 3-4 miles, maybe more.  I debated going perpendicular off route a few miles just to get away from it.

But I do love beef.
