(No subject)Southern Tier late February W to E?
« on: December 08, 2022, 12:50:13 pm »
Hi:  I biked on the Southern Tier from San Diego to Austin last year -- I departed the second week of March.  I aim to do similar this spring and to leave three weeks earlier, so late February. I had only a couple super cold hours last year -- and am wondering if anyone thinks those three weeks earlier are problematic for this year.  Of course, we never know what weather will bring.  Thanks.

One man's super cold is another man's comfortable.  I would suggest you check out WeatherSpark.com and decide what YOU think works for YOU.

Hope you have a great tour!  Tailwinds, John

The year I did it I started in mid Feb.  I thought the weather was fine.  Frost many nights, but it warmed up quickly most days.  No real snow beyond a little (not much more than a dusting) on the top of a couple passes, but roads were always clear.  I found the weather much nicer than hot weather.

Other years could be worse for snow, but I think you would usually be able to wait a couple days for roads to clear in most cases.
