Carson Pass will be fine as long as we get several days of sunny weather.

But Carson Pass is likely to be a wall of snow until late May.
And no camping possible between Silver Lake and Hope Valley.
Some public and private facilities may choose not to open this year.
The combination of a very short season and lots of repairs.
Cyclists should expect very limited services well into June.

Long, hard winter mean:
1. Road damage.
2. Downed trees.
3. Water & sewer line repair.
4. Roof damage.
5. Mud & difficult access.
All of which cost money.

Hi jamawani,

Now here, late June 2023, do you have some info on the road conditions on the Sierra Cascades due to the enormous snowpack?

I started on the Western express on May 8 and completed it on June 9.

No issues with road conditions along Western express. I did run into some rain and hail in colorado (lizard peak, Telluride, monarch pass)

If you do not like the weather that's okay because it is subject to change at any time. If it is good weather it could turn extremely radically lethally bad in a very short time. And likewise all these storms pass and the weather returns to calm. Stay ahead of it.

Lucas -

Ebbetts Pass and Sonora Pass opened two weeks ago - although many high country services remain closed.
Tioga Pass in Yosemite N.P. remains closed. There is no target date, but it may be July 15 or later.
