Atlanta GA to Wilmington NC or Myrtle Beach
« on: March 19, 2023, 08:56:21 pm »
Hi All, I've got a some days off and an opportunity to ride from Atlanta, GA to Wilmington, NC. The thing is the ride would be in a about 2 weeks. I can't find any info on any routes or any info on routes. I'm starting to think it's a terrible ride because no one does it?

Do you have any info on riding from Atlanta to Wilmington? Even Atlanta to Columbia or. Columbia to Wilmington. Columbia to Myrtle Beach would be OK to. Any ideas?

First, welcome to the ACA Forums!

Last year, a buddy of mine and I rode from Atlanta to Charleston.  It took about 10?? days.  Gotta say, parts of eastern GA and a major amount of SC (Aiken to Charleston) were pretty boring. We did a mix of camping and hotels and ate out or uncooked food (cheese, PB, etc.).

If you need it, I do have routes, cue sheets, etc. going from Atlanta to Charleston and/or Columbus.  From Charleston, you could connect with ACA's Atlantic Coast Route.

If all else fails, there is google maps bicycle option. Some reported being routed onto dead-end dirt roads. Nothing is perfect.

Thanks for the advice! I made the trip it was great! I started with a route I built on my Garmin then I got a little sidetracked and just used Google maps. There were some dead end roads, a closed ferry and some dirt logging roads my road bike did not appreciate but I made it in 3 days. My miles were:
day 1. 186miles,
 2. 175miles
 3. 125miles.

Now I’m looking for a new adventure. I think I’m going to bike from my home in Wilmington NC to my hometown in upstate NY.

Glad you had a great trip and an surprised by the ultra high miles you did each day, especially with the limited daylight. That level of mileage will be a bit more difficult as you head north due to congestion but if you ride it in summertime, the daylight will be longer.
