Sierra Cascades: Maps too old. What to do?

Hi,

I have a set of brand new, unused Sierra Cascade maps that never came to use 5 years ago. This year I'm ready to take up the challenge again.

The problem is that the entire map set was printed in 2010 which is now 13 years ago and there are no addendums for these versions online.

Is there anything I can do or do I have to buy new maps?

You do realize that the paved roads in the high Sieeras won't be open until July this year.
And the dirt roads even later. Record snowpack.
Plus - probably - significant damage. Bridges out.
Check and double-check before you head out.

Check out the Updates/Corrections to the maps.  They go back to the 2010 edition.  What I do not know is if they update ALL the editions or just the most current one. By that I mean say a route has maps published in 2010, 2015, & 2020.  Say a bike shop that was listed on all three maps closed in 2021 and a rider let ACA know that the bike shop shown on the 2020 map was closed.  I do not know if ACA provides am Update/Correction  to just the 2020 map or to all map versions.  I would guess if you look at all the updates, you might get an idea. Of course, you could just buy new maps but that is an expense.

We only have map corrections and updates from 2010 on sections 1 and 5. So to get the most current information, if you had a 2010 maps, you'd have to review all the later map updates versions. And on sections 2, 3, and 4 you'd be missing the 2010 updates. Services change a lot over the years. And often we change the route due to safety concerns. For example, Section 1 no longer begins in Sumas, WA. It now begins in Blaine, WA. And on Section 2 we deleted the Windigo Alternate and added the McKenzie Alternate due to many complaints about the condition of the off pavement road surface.

If your maps are from 2010 we recommend purchasing the newer maps.

I've ridden with old maps in the past.... A pain, time-consuming, and sometimes too much "Adventure," when I find roads closed or turned into super highways.

I'm with Carla - support ACA, and at least download the route on the phone app or GPX. The maps are updated for good reasons.

Spend the time it would take to update 13-y-old maps on the bike instead.

Lucas, sorry I didn't get a chance to respond sooner. We had been getting feedback about Highway 9 getting busier with traffic and having variable shoulder widths. And we're trying to be consistent and cojoin our different routes to use the same routing where we can.
