GDMBR: Hwy129 Clark into Steamboat Springs

I have been told that bicycling on Hwy129 from Clark to Steamboat Springs (CO) is dangerous. The relatively narrow road with no shoulders has blind curves and a lot of traffic including trucks. So I was wondering if it makes sense to turn right 4 miles after Clark and drive via CO RD 56, 52E, 44A and 44? That's a detour of 16.1 miles +767 ft / -1,065 ft. Please see the map shown below. The detour avoids having to cycle on the most dangerous part of the Hwy129. Is this a usable detour?
