Pacific Coast Section 5, Map 56, bike path closure/construction - Jan 2024

The Ralph Fertig Coastal Bike Path along US 101 south of Carpinteria on Map 56 will be temporarily closed for emergency construction to repair damage to the bike path and adjacent slope caused by Tropical Storm Hilary. Construction is anticipated to begin January 15, 2024 and is estimated to take 30 working days. During construction, the bike path will be fully closed between Bates Road (Turn G/Exit #83) and Old Pacific Coast Highway (at the Cliff House Inn) to ensure worker and public safety.

You will be required to ride on the shoulder of US 101 during construction.

UPDATE:

The southbound shoulder will now be closed due to heavy equipment being located there for the construction. The northbound shoulder will remain open, but the shoulder is narrow and the traffic is heavy and fast.

Another option for southbound and northbound cyclists is SR 150, Santa Ana Rd., and Ventura Ave. to connect Carpinteria to Ventura.

SR 150 is a narrow, 2-lane, winding mountain highway, use caution. Santa Ana Rd. and Ventura Ave are 2-lane roads with moderate shoulders.
