Documenting my maiden TransAm voyage - Suggestions?

Hi Neil-  My husband and I rode 1001 miles last fall frim Ohio to the East coast (Norfolk, VA). We stopped frequently &  I took pix w my iPhone, then at the end of the day, I wrote my days’ journal on Notes on my phone, & then uploaded the journal, selected pix & captions on CrazyGuyOnABike.  Friends & family enjoyed the daily updates, & it kept a record of what we saw when, & various musings. I had poor wifi in Harpers Ferry, WV, & a relative was worried when I didn’t post until next am!  But many friends told us how much they enjoyed following our day-to-day.  I didn’t post on Facebook partially from a security standpoint, telling the world we’re not home for a prolonged trip.

I dl’d the journal pages as pdf’s in Dropbox after the ride to save a backup copy.

To limit your load, I'd suggest one reasonably good camera and maybe one video device (like a GoPro).  Some people do much more, like the people 30 years ago who took two 35 mm SLRs and five lenses.  Have you thought where to put all your clothes, rain gear, spare parts, food, and cooking gear?

Heh.  Back in 1999, I took a medium format camera (Mamiya 645) with 3 lenses, metered view finder and power winder and a 35mm camera with one lens. Mailed home exposed rolls of film amd had new rolls mailed to me.

I agree with people about the time it takes.  And I only stopped to take still photos.  There is going to be so much else going on that will require your attention, not to mention the riding.  Unless you are moving at a snail's pace in terms of daily mileage, trying to produce high quality output is going to be tough.  And don't think you will always have connectivity.

A cinematographer, human on the loose, is a trail cyclist.  She produces engaging videos of her rides on the single tracks and the gravel roads and byways. She is on You Tube. Her videos would be good examples. She would likely answer questions you might have.

My suggestion. I've been traveling for 40 years, I love photography and writing, for the past two years I've been exclusively traveling by bike with my wife. We use to make videos for family and friends. During the journey, we write just a blog (https://vivereviaggiando.ca).
Applications: I've met people who use Polarsteps (https://www.polarsteps.com/) and it's very good. I don’t use it because I have a blog.
Camera: My wife uses a Sony cigarette pack size (DSC-HX80 - 18x), I prefer a bridge camera (Lumix FZ1000 - 16x) however, is big and heavy. Of course, I've met professional photographers traveling with DSLRs and two lenses.
Cell phone: I just got the Samsung S23 Ultra with a 10x lens, but a good camera is different.
Video: The top is GoPro.
Drone: Amazing images, but you have to carry it in your backpack, stop, assemble it, and fly it. I don’t make video for job, so for me too much time lost.
Computer: If I were to leave for a year, I will take it. For a shorter trip only if I accept adding another 1-2 kg in the bags.
Video editing: We edit it when we are relaxing at home with PC software.
Remeber the dogs: Don’t forget. A marine horn and a dog repellent (https://spisafety.com/Items/0/0000000000002133/Dog_Halt_Repellent_Spray/se/Repellents) . The US dogs are very aggressive and free to bite your calfs.
