TX Hill Country minus Austin

I'm looking at going to TX in the next few days to ride the TXHC route. I would likely park around Fredericksburg and I would like to avoid the sprawl and traffic of Austin. Any routing advice would be appreciated! (My first tour in FOREVER so I'm a bit nervous)

On I-35 before you get to Austin at Georgetown go west on Texas 29 to Llano then south on Texas 16 into Fredericksburg

Thanks! I guess I'm more looking at a cycling route that avoids the sprawl and traffic around Austin. What roads are safe to "cut the corner"?

Good idea!  We rode from Austin & did a loop.  Lovely except for in-near Austin.  Look at the ACA supported group tours as they have one this year (2024) that starts & ends in Fredericksburg, skips Austin,  & gives daily itineraries.
