Pacific Coast Section 4, Harris Grade Road, 2024
« on: March 25, 2024, 12:28:59 pm »
Harris Grade Road in Santa Barbara County is currently (3/25/2024) closed; however, images from the source make it appear the road is passable for bicycles.

Quote
Harris Grade Road, north of Lompoc, remains closed due to storm erosion near the Santa Maria side of the summit, from Rucker Road to Highway 135.

The route is expected to remain closed between one and three months due to slip out and debris, according to Jackie Ruiz, Santa Barbara County communications and outreach coordinator.

She said one-lane access cannot be established because the slip out occurred on a turn.

I get chicken when a road is sliding off the hill and there may be heavy construction equipment.

CA 1 is a 4-5 lane road with light traffic except around rush hour (and an extra hill) up to the Vandenberg gate and back down.  IMHO it's a reasonable detour.
