Companions Wanted Section
« on: May 13, 2024, 09:44:38 pm »
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE POSTING OR REPLYING!!
Since it appears ACA has removed the official "Companions Wanted" section from this Forum, this has been created as a workaround.

Some basic rules:

1) This is ONLY for bicycle touring companions; not the lonely and looking for company area, selling bikes, looking for a campground, etc.

2) ONLY POST WHEN "Looking for a Companions".  DO NOT REPLY TO A REQUEST!! To post your Companions Wanted, reply to this post (see bottom of page for "Reply".  However, to reply to a Seeker's post, PLEASE only private message the Seeker (Seeker's link is near upper left of that specific post) otherwise the forum thread could get confusing, i.e. are you replying to Seeker #3 or Seeker #7 and the thread becomes useless.  Don't be lazy and just reply.  If you must reply to a companion, please be sure to address the person's name/user id, to eliminate confusion.

NOTE:  Be sure to change the Subject line of YOUR post to brief description of the ride, i.e. "Companions Wanted for W>E TransAm in Summer 2025"

3) This is for personal use only.  No commercial advertising except to provide a one-time link to a commercial BICYCLE TOUR you are going on and seeking a companion, i.e. you are going on a cross-state ride (link provided) and looking for a companion.

4) Once your tour is over and/or you have found your desired companion(s), please REMOVE your post (upper right corner of the post) so the Companions Section is as current as possible and not filled with posts from 3 years ago.  If you replied to a post, be sure to REMOVE your post also.

Some basic guidelines:

1) Provide a date and tour description, i.e. ACA TransAm West to East starting mid-June.

2) Give a reasonable amount of demographics, i.e. age, sex, marital status, touring experience, language skills if applicable, bike repair skills, etc. so potential companions can decide if you are compatible

3) Give a brief description of your riding style, i.e. early riser, party hard, ride 60 miles per day on average, eating preferences (restaurants, cook own food, vegan, meat lover, etc.), things you want to accomplish (looking to visit the biggest ball of twine), what you are looking for in a companion, etc.

4) Due to !@#$% computer bots, you are strongly advised NOT to give your personal email or phone number in the public post

Looking for several riders. TransAm West to East. Early season.

For my 65th BD I am doing the TransAm in 2025.  50-70 miles a day.  Mostly hotel stays in the wet west so we can start in early season.  April?  Planning a route with ACA maps but modifying for lower elevation gains by detouring on Rails-To-Trails routes.  Planning on Portland to DC but that could change as the group wishes.  Some highlights ACA Headquarters Mousula Montana, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmoor, Cowboy Trail, Katy Trail, Erie Trail, C&O Canal.  I am planning on making the route friendly to drop-in riders who want to join us for a week or two for special segments.  Young adult friendly.  Planning on mostly eating in local restaurants to support small towns and for the feel of the communities. We may have non-rider spouses or friends sag with a vehicle to carry gear.  As you can tell we are in early planning stages and if we get a core of 10 or so riders we can modify to their desires.  We can go fully self supported but that might exclude some want-to-be riders so we are open to volunteer suppporters.  I plan on video taping the whole route and posting for our friends and clubs to follow along.  With enough people maybe we can even get sponsors for gear.  I would be interesting in sponsoring a young adult in need of an epic adventure. We could meet up with RAGBRAI as many TransAms do but I am doing RAGBRAI for the 3rd time this July so another route is fine.

GDMBR 2024: Looking for riding partner(s) for the great divide this summer, especially through grizzly territory.  I will be departing Banff roughly July 26th or 27th, 2024.  I am 35 years old, in fairly good shape but not a competitive cyclist by any means.  I expect I will ride between 60 and 90 miles most days, with some longer and some shorter.  I will mostly be camping out, with the odd night in a hotel when I need a boost.  If interested, feel free to reply here or reach out via email (joefoxjr@gmail.com).  Cheers!

I had planned to ride the GDMBR this summer (2024) and due to unforeseen circumstances this could not take place. However, I am looking for a riding partner / partners for riding the GDMBR in the summer of 2025 (July,August) from Banff BC to Antelope Wells New Mexico.

71-year old male cyclist seeking responsible adult to provide RV/camper support for my lifelong dream of bicycling the 1,000 mile, Baja Peninsula of Mexico, during 4-5 weeks in mid-Feb to late March, 2025. .

I will subsidize ALL expenses, including food, gas and Mexican auto insurance. Additional stipend also possible. Driver should have BASIC bike repair acumen. Ability to speak basic Spanish would be helpful but is not necessary. I plan to ride independently; you would drive the route during the later part of the day to intercept me if necessary, and for help in emergencies. I will not be sleeping in your RV unless no other option is available.

I will follow Mexico Transcontinental Route 1 from the U.S border to Cabo San Lucas.I am a married male from Philadelphia  with extensive independent bike touring experience. This is an opportunity to experience a culturally fascinating area cost-free (while relieving my wife's anxiety)..

First off, John thanks for creating this thread.  I hope they fix companions wanted, although I posted there last year for my last tour (Atlanta to Milwaukee) and nobody ever responded.  Sad face.

February 2025, 10-11 day ride through Joshua Tree & Death Valley NP.  Starting outside of Palm Springs, ending in Vegas.  60-65 mi/day average, self-contained.  I'm a 46 year old married male with extensive bike touring experience.  My wife frequently tours with me but she has zero interest in deserts and mountains, so I'm looking for ANYONE who wants to go. Mostly camping at campgrounds, some hotels as needed.  I prefer to eat at restaurants but we're gonna be in some of the most desolate places in America so we'll see.  The reward should be absolutely jaw-dropping scenery.

My email is this username at gmail, or google me (first name Noah) and you'll find my contact info. I'm not too hard to find.

Seeking riding partner/partners for Mexico trip. I'm open to both time and routes, as long as the time is between January and March, 2025 and the routes are in Mexico. Maybe a chunk of the Baja Divide, or the TransMexico route north or south? 61 y/o married male, some Spanish, good bike-repair skills. Mileage per day depends on route, but I'm not out to set any personal bests or FKTs.

Hi - As it would happen, I will be riding solo in Mexico (Baja) during the period you mentioned. Feb. 15 - end of March (with some flexibility) from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas- about 1,000 miles. The reason I ride solo is I am the slowest rider on this planet - OK, one of them. I probably average 7.5 mph. The reason I would like to NOT ride solo is I have little to no mechanical ability and for the company. I have had extensive solo touring experience - I guess that's relative - maybe 15,000 miles including from the Mexican to Canadian borders on US 83 (e.g. cross-country).  71 year old married male living in Philadelphia.  Hit me up with questions (probably better to do via email rather than back and forth here: mniteoil@gmail.com or via phone 215-207-4972 (text first, plz). Buena suerte!
