Tour Leader

So back in 2020, I got the idea that I wanted to lead bike tours.  I've been trying to beef up my resume ever since to make myself a reasonable candidate.

I took the (then available) Leadership Training Course.

I saw that ACA was looking for "basic first aid training, with wilderness first aid for certain trips."  I am now certified as a Wilderness First Responder and an EMT.

There was a request for Leave No Trace training, so I went and got a Leave No Trance Master Educator (Level 2) certificate.  (I not only practice Leave No Trace, I train trainers in Leave No Trace.)

I have done several tours with Adventure Cycling Association, including van supported and self contained trips.

This year, I am doing 5 long distance (approximately 20 people / 300+ miles / 7 days) self contained tours with another outfit, and I am an assistant.  (I don't get paid, but I don't pay for the tour either.)

I've had interviews with several major outfitters, but so far no offers.  Adventure Cycling hasn't shown any interest at all.

Frank, welcome to the ACA Forums!

Since they do not seem to be leading as many self-contained tours as in the "golden years", they may only need 1 or 2 new ones a year.  I assume existing tour leaders get 1st dibs.

As you say, there are other groups out there so keep trying.
