Camp Chair
« on: December 09, 2024, 12:29:28 pm »
You may laugh.  I carry an REI fold up camp chair on my cross country rides, hanging off of a rear pannier.  At 81, I really enjoy my breaks  but most times there is nowhere to hunker down.  I used it everyday this past summer before it turned up missing in a big city. In the desert especially, I looked for underpasses or parked motorhomes to sit in shadow and out of the sun.  I even took cat naps. The chairs now have doubled and tripled in price.  If someone has one and isn't using it, I'd like to buy it for my Key West to Washington DC tour this coming Spring.

Not laughing at all. Nothing wrong with being comfortable! Have you looked at the Helinox chairs? Not cheap but super compact and light.

I know everybody is different...

For me, there are a long list of things that would bring me more comfort and pleasure in camp than a camp chair.  In terms of comfort per ounce or cubic inch it just doesn't rank that high for me.

Some things that rank much higher:

1.  Flip flops
2.  Beer
3.  A decent frying pan
4.  Whiskey
5.  Headphones
6.  Chocolate
7.  A big fluffy beach towel
8.  Whiskey and Chocolate

An insulated cup for coffee should be added.

You're almost there David: Whiskey and chocolate while lounging in a comfortable camp chair, wrapped in a big fluffy beach towel, frying fresh-caught trout in a decent frying pan. Sorry, I don't do flip flops.

That should read any old fry pan and a superior whiskey. But then, any whiskey tastes good in a camp chair in camp!

I pretty much always carry one.  Bonus points if your coffee cup will fit in your feed bag.

For camp slippers, flip-flops are my go-to.  They also have a practical use as you can wear them in the seldom-clean campground showers.

Tevas or some water shoe are almost as good but often much heavier.  Crocs are ridiculously heavy and bulky for that purpose.

The Mayfly Imago sandals are probably the lightest possible and take up very little room in a bike bag.
