Where to stay in Del Norte
« on: April 28, 2025, 03:09:54 am »
Hi, I am planning to ride the GDMBR and want to stay in Del Norte (2 nights). Unfortunately, Woods and River RV Park no longer offers camping spots. What is a fine location In Del Norte to spend the night as a cyclist? Thank you for your reply!

Hi Bill. I reviewed camping spots in that area last month and the Town Park in Del Norte has one night free camping. I'm not sure if a stay over one night is hard NO but it might be possible to check with local town admin or police to see if they would approve? The next camping sites are  a few miles away from what I researched on Google Maps.

Thanks for the reply Doug. Indeed, it was my understanding that staying overnight in the park is also a possibility (but I also read something about water sprinklers suddenly turning on  :) ).

Can you leave your stuff safely when you go into the village? In my opinion you are safer in a closed campground with regard to theft.

Other options include the Windsor Hotel, Mellow Moon Lodge or Country Family Inn & Restaurant (the latter has bad reviews).

Hi Bill.
Yes...I saw something about sprinklers as well. Not a good start to a morning if that happened!
As far as leaving stuff, I'm not sure. I've travelled significant miles on a motorcycle throughout Canada and the US and never had anything stolen but maybe I've been lucky. When I travel on a bicycle, I take it in with me into grocery stores, Walmarts, etc. I've never had anyone question me...so far. Leaving an unattended campsite in a public park does seem risky and I might be faced with those decisions along the route at some point.
Thanks for those potential locations.
