Pacific Coast Route in Late August - September

Anyone cycled the Pacific Coast Route in the last year or so? Planning a late August through September, Astoria to San Diego. Washington State doesnt seem as interesting to me and I assume I can spend extra time along the way in OR and CA. That make sense? Any info on traffic etc? Thanks, SY
