An update today from Gary MacFadden, a member of the Save ACA Committee.
Dear Friends of Adventure Cycling,
First … thank you! Your willingness to sign the Save ACA petition, whether last summer or more recently, made a real difference. It showed how deeply people across the Adventure Cycling community care about the organization’s future and about preserving the assets and traditions that have supported bicycle travel for decades.
We especially wanted to share this update with those who may not currently be ACA members and may not have received official communications.
Following the recent (and second) membership vote, the proposed sale of Adventure Cycling Association’s headquarters building at 150 E. Pine Street in Missoula will not move forward. More members voted in the second vote, and nearly 60% voted against the sale. As a result, the ACA board has terminated the sale process, and the building will remain in ACA ownership. This reflects strong engagement from the community and confirms how much this organization and its future still matter.
Equally important, representatives from the ACA board and the Save ACA group have begun a mediated dialogue focused on rebuilding trust, improving transparency, and working collaboratively toward solutions. We view this as a very positive step forward.
The engagement we’ve seen suggests something encouraging: Adventure Cycling still inspires deep loyalty. That’s an important foundation as the organization addresses ongoing financial and management challenges. Those challenges remain real, and thoughtful solutions — including stronger programs, membership engagement, partnerships, and fundraising — will all be essential.
There is also special historical context this year. 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the original Bikecentennial tours in 1976 that led to the creation of Adventure Cycling Association. It’s a moment to celebrate what has been built, and to help ensure it continues.
If Adventure Cycling has mattered to you, this is a particularly helpful time to stay involved:
Join or renew your membership
Participate in tours, events or programs
Encourage others to get involved
Consider a financial contribution
Help connect ACA with potential donors or sponsors
Strong member organizations ultimately depend on sustained participation from the people who value them.
Our shared hope going forward is simple:
That dialogue replaces division.
That transparency replaces uncertainty.
And that collective, collaborative solutions replace short-term fixes.
We’ll continue sharing updates as the mediation process moves ahead. And again, thank you for lending your voice at an important moment. Your engagement helped create space not just to stop the sale, but to refocus attention on the long-term, sustainable health of Adventure Cycling.
With deep appreciation,
Save ACA Organizers
