Topeak Child Safety Seat Rack
« on: March 30, 2026, 09:15:57 pm »
I got hit again which is number 10 for those keeping track. The automobile hit the left rear pannier with enough force to knock me off the road. The bag was a waterproof backpack that I tied to the rack using tie down straps. The rack does not seem to be bent. I am unable to find the model on the web. It has an aluminum casting which bolts to 3 aluminum struts. The struts that bolt to the seat stays are quite beefy and come with extensions. I also added a 3rd strut that bolts to the fender mount. The newer Topeaks rack are other models that have been rebranded and in my opinion are not strong enough for a safety seat.

Just got hit again number 11. I had replaced the backpack with one of those green telephone boxes you see on the side of the road. The box shattered along with their bumper. This needs to be repeated on a regular basis. Plastic goes bad. Two bent wheels bent crank. Cranks can be made rideable bending it back with a fence post. The rack is fine. I have a pulled muscle. I'm not ruling out some one is trying to kill me so no more bicycle lanes for a while. To paraphrase the motorcycle riders Kevlar is cheaper than skin grafts.
