Shopping for pedals.
« on: May 12, 2026, 08:12:07 pm »
I'm looking for pedals ratrap preferably with steel pins. The WalMart has Ozark Trail but these have a plain nylon bearing. The other has 1/2 thread with a 9/16 adaptor. No thinks I will break those. Rei and Academy have carbon fiber but the glue goes bad and these fail. Also I prefer not to have the tiny ball bearings since a small amount to water can make these fail quickly. I have several bike shops but none of them have a searchable web site. I think my best bet is to have something ordered from J and B but I don't currently have their catalog to see what is available.

You didn't say what your price limit is, nor if you want double sided pedals.  So, since you looked at Walmart, I'm thinking you want the lowest costing pedal you can find.

With that in mind. I would consider DMR V11 composite pedal that cost $57 for black on Amazon, but the crazy thing is that if you don't mind yellow you can get the same pedal for $32?! They are serviceable, rebuildable, removable pins, built around a 4140 CroMo steel axle which runs on a cartridge sealed bearing and bushing that most bike shop carry or can get, and they have a 3-year warranty.

The medium quality stuff has always worked best for me. My point is shops are not carrying what has been proven to work. Generally I get new ones when the pegs wear down. I found some plastic ones in a hardware store and will donate these to the homeless when I find what I want.
