Wax melts on clothing.

Now that mosquito season is here I would like to tell you an additional method I use to repel bugs. Wax melts are available in grocery stores. I will put one cube in a sock tie the end and toss it in the dryer. It will melt and coat your clothing with wax and whatever essential oil is in the melt. I generally use cinnamon since it itches when applied directly to skin. Wax melts are soybean wax which melts at a lower temperature that paraffin. Actually few dryers get hot enough to melt paraffin which is a shame since that is available with citronella. Soybean wax washes out eventually which is good since it can go rancid. The wax will also give your clothes a bit of waterproofing.

I've tried a similar approach to repelling mosquitoes, and it worked quite well. For an added decorative touch at home, I've used a large centerpiece wax bowl. It's a beautiful way to incorporate bug-repelling scents with a stylish home decor piece. Just be sure to check the melting point of the wax you use to avoid any mess with clothes.
