Muksetawa Trail Michigan
« on: August 03, 2026, 05:26:47 pm »
I'll be riding NW from Grand Rapids as part of my Tour de Michigan.  From GR I'm going to Muskegon and looking for updated and/or local information about the Musketawa trail.  I read that it is closed from Marne to Ravenna.  Can I pick it up near Ravenna and go toward Muskegon?  Google maps doesn't put me on the trail much and unable to view conditions, like paved/gravel/dirt?  Anyone know much about it?

Thanks for your comments and I'm very much looking forward to September/October in Michigan and all the rail trails!

I assume you have seen this from the trail's website  (https://www.musketawatrail.com/about/musketawa-trail-re-build-news):

Work continues on Phase 1 of the re-build of the Musketawa Trail (Ottawa County section, including a short portion in (Muskegon County). Today, 7/31/26, a portion of the trail REOPENS for public use. The Musketawa Trail from the Marne trailhead (8th Avenue) west up to Squires Road is now open and available for use (this includes the trailhead at Marne). The trailhead at Conklin remains closed. The Musketawa Trail from Squires Road west to the Ravenna trailhead also remains closed. This section will stay closed while the bridge at Crockery Creek is completed. The expectation for the remaining closed section (including the Crockery Creek bridge) to open is early September 2026.

Based on that, you should be good for at least part of it if you are going in late September.

Yes I did see it. Not knowing the area at all, I just thought perhaps I'd missed some information.  Looks like plenty of options for road riding to pick up the trail.  Thanks, John.

Just FYI, I've connected with a representative of the Friends of Musketawa Trail and will be riding with them in that area.  If you are interested, check them out! https://www.musketawatrail.com/
