Adventure Fundraising tour/First time cycling tourist

Hello fellow Cyclist,

My name is Abbey Odunlami, I'm a filmmaker from Chicago and I'm doing my first cycling tour currently. I just started last week in New York and I've arrived in D.C. when I discovered this forum. I'm doing the tour, besides the secret desire to really just wanna do it, to fund-raise for my film. My goal is to travel from New York to L.A. and on the way get a $25 donation from 6,000 people. I'm currently using the way-points on the ACA map, coping them down, and doing a google maps step by step, I have a smartphone so it allows easy access to information. I would have loved to but couldn't really afford to by the maps from ACA, as I'm on a tight budget.

But I'd really love any addition advice from the community, about experiences and would also love to meet up with some cyclist along the way to have some company. I know about warmshowers and just signed up, I have a tent and proper gear. So if anyone is doing the Atlantic Coast and the Southern Tier please email me or give me a call.

A little about my projects: So I'm fundraising for a feature film that I want to shoot this fall. But while on the trip at every stop I'm also collecting footage and interviews for a documentary about the current condition of the arts and artists in America. It seems more and more difficult for artists to fund projects as the Arts are always the first thing to be cut from any budget especially the government.

The site for my fundraising project is 25forArt.org
But either way please email or call me with any input on meeting artists along the way, your adventure tour experience, places to visit, or if you want to meet up. I'll be stopping at the Atlantic Coast points all the way to Florida, then cutting west on the Southern Tier path to L.A. Cheers, and wish you all good cycling.

Two negative comments...  First I wouldn't have picked that route this time of year.  It is going to be brutally hot much of the way.  Second I don't get why folks think going on vacation is a reason that people should give them money.

That said, I wish you luck and hope you have a great trip.  I would have offered hospitality in Baltimore, but it looks like you are past here already.

BTW, great looking web site.

I think you'd have a better chance of getting funds if you did $5 instead of 25, most people will give $5 for a great idea(no comment on wether your idea is great or not ;)) but $25 seems alot.

For tips just browse the forum or ask specific questions on the forum

or look at my site  ;)

Good luck and have fun.
