Looking for Bike Bag for Amtrak or Greyhound?

  I dont want to break down my bike for the train so is there a bike bag that will take my bike whole?

There are soft "bike bag" travel cases but the ones I've seen require the same disassembly as a hard case.  Keep in mind that Amtrak and Greyhound toss your bike into the baggage compartment pretty much like an airline does so you probably want about the same level of protection as you would when you fly.

Some European railroads allow complete bikes in a special baggage car and sell a plain bag that just covers the bike.

I have travelled with my bicycle on Amtrak for my last three tours without any problems. They have very large boxes. All you have to do is turn your handlebars and roll your bike right in. My travels have started and ended in ST. Paul, Minnesota to destinations in Montana and have always been met with very helpful people. Especially in East Glacier Park Montana. I quit travelling by Greyhound after my bike nearly missed getting on the bus in Des Moine, Iowa. Even though you pay extra, they won't gaurantee it getting on. Good Luck,

Blair is absolutely right on...AMTRAK not an issue. Likewise not one problem with my bicycle on AMTRAK. The ONLY issue is that one's bike must be loaded/unloaded at any station that has "baggage handling" service. Not many do so when planning, even though you may find a station at your starting/ending point it does not mean you can load/unload your bike at those specific stations.
