How long do most of you tour for during your working year? At most without taking a specific vacation I get a lot of four day trips in becuase the army graciously gives us a four day weekend once a month. Of course that almost makes up for all the time gone but...another forum.

Just curious to know how many folks are able to get out and ride epic trips during the year.

I am a teacher and have from 68 to 72 consecutive days off every summer, at least since I stopped working with the high school band in the summers about 10 years ago.  That's plenty enough time for a transcontinental ride with a some weeks left over (though the longest tour I have taken is 1000 miles/12 days.)  In my younger days, I always got another job during the summers but haven't done that for nearly twenty years.  I am taking early retirement soon and then I will have year-round summer vacation!

This year I took a 2 week vacation (3 weekends though) to bike to Maine from NJ. However, it wasn't like a complete biking vacation as my friend has a cabin up in "the County" by the border with New Brunswick so we spend 8 biking days to get there and then spend about 4 days relaxing and canoeing/kayaking on the lake there.  I can't really take those super long vacations due to work right now though so now cross country plans in the works yet.  Although if I wanted to do it in sections, I've already gone from NJ to the Atlantic Ocean and also Maine/Canada.

i am the same. my schedule is very unpredictable so it is hard for me to make plans long term out. almost all of my touring is done with about a month of planning and for about a week at the longest due to family, etc. i am an army officer living in germany so at least i can make it up by riding in some nice places! i am looking forward to one day having a profession where i am able to paddle, bike, climb, and ski to my heart's content. probably why i'm hanging on here in the army until i can get my 50% salary for life pension!
