What kind of back pack is it?

I did not see it before, it seems the athlete can tie his mtb with his back pack, anyone see it before?

I don't recognize the pack itself, but if it were me I would use an external frame backpack without the pack.  Didn't Kelty or Dana sell an external frame alone for awhile?  Getting that pack back down the mountian would be neat trick, though.

It could be just a pack frame with no bag.

North West River Supply makes a nice carrying frame with hip belt, shoulder straps, padding for carrying rolled up rafts and kayaks, canoe baggage, etc.  

It is lighter than a metal pack frame, smaller and lighter when not in use, quite versatile, called a "Paragon Pack" for $49.99.

Paragon Pack is versatile, but I asked their customer service, they are not very sure if a mountain bike can be tied with the pack.

With enough bungee cords, you can carry almost anything

Might just be a custom job, as long as you keep the center of gravity closer to your body and up, it'll work.  If you ask any adventure racer, which it looks like that picture could be of one, he/she might be more experienced in carrying a bike.

Like Randy says, most people that I see carrying weird and heavy, sometimes very heavy loads use packframes. If you do any hiking in NE's white mtns, the AMC volunteers who pack things in and out of the huts use packframes to bring stuff down and back. I've seen them hiking on the trails before with this huge honking loads..

Pictures from the Trans Rockies Challenge showed a guy carrying his partners bike down (She was airlifted out after a crash)just using some rope to lash it to his shoulders and riding down. The specific type of pack may not matter, and there is likely not one made for the purpose of carrying a bike. A little ingenuity though should fix you right up.
