Cross country bike advice
« on: October 17, 2005, 01:48:25 pm »
Up to four other buddies and I are thinking about a cross country bike adventure in May, '07 (Oregon - Maine).  We'd like to do this just by ourselves but with support of a van and driver who is bike savvy.  It looks like it will take 60 days or so.  Does anyone have advice about how to find such a person?  Also any hints about this type of trip from someone who has done it and not in an organized group?  Thanks

You may have already considered this, but why don't you trade off driving duties amongst yourself and your friends?  Another option is to find someone who wants to travel with you but doesn't necessarily want to ride such as a retired relative or a spouse.  Sounds like a good trip.

Sean,

We will look for someone in our families if we can't find someone who knows bikes well and is for hire.

Thanks,
Dick

You might also post ads in the ACA magazine, they do have a section for partners wanted.

Or you might try a local college campus.. Somebody during the summer might not want to work and perhaps take a slight adventure following you around or so... Never know....

Jay,

Thanks for both suggestions.  Many college students are into biking and looking for interesting summer experiences.
