Self supported touring on a Folding Bike?
« on: October 19, 2005, 04:38:53 pm »
I started looking for a folding bike for loaded touring and I've found several that seem good.  I'm going to travel internationally and use this investment a long time.  I've seen the Bike Friday set up where the bike case becomes the trailer to load all your gear.  It seems so elegant and well thought out.  How does it work for you and do any other bikes have a similar set up availible??

Bike Friday has a "community" where you can ask questions, or read lots of past messages: http://www.bikefriday.com/CommunityLogin.cfm .

You might be able to find similar forums for other folding bikes.

I ride a Bike Friday Pocket Gnu built up for touring and trail riding. I haven't used the trailer but have commuted with panniers and the bike has performed quite well. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to head out on an extended tour with it.

Are you familiar with the CrazyGuyonaBike web site? It contains hundreds of journals posted by touring cyclists, including those using folders. A gal by the name of Denise Goldberg has done extensive travel using a Bike Friday/trailer combination.
