Does anyone out there have experience and/or good sources of information about touring in Scotland?  I'm starting to plan a trip there in Sep 06 and anything will help.

I'm pretty self reliant, so I'm mainly looking for unexpected stuff that could create a problem like unique laws or traveling issues, odd camping situations, etc.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Sam

I would suggest the best place for you to start if you have not already found the info you need is Sustrans  www.sustrans.org.uk   They have extensive material on the British cycle network, maps, guides ets and links. I purchased their material on touring in Wales and it is wonderfully informative.
I am only reading your message now because I just became a member.
Hope this helps. Any questions welcome.
Regards.

Here in Scotland, well in my part we have the 7Stanes routes, what you would call wilderness trails. Most can be done with a standard bike. E-mail Richard tyredocter@hotmail.co.uk  The biggest problem you wiil encounter is hawthorn hedges which seriously puncture a tyre often more than six at a time!!!! You are welcome to Dumfries and Galloway anytime!
