Cycling Holiday

In the summer, my wife, 2 sons and i are planning to cycle along the northern coast of scotland, from thurso to perhaps kylesku. Has anyone done this before, and how difficult/hilly is it. Also, what about accomodation/any other pointers. Thank you

There is not a lot of anything along the northern coast of Scotland.
I rode from Bettyhill to Thurso and on to John o'Groats at the conclusion of my LEJOG trip in 2001 and it was the worst days weather I had in 5 months of touring( XC USA then LEJOG ).
Expect strong winds , both tail and head, midges and very little in the way of habitation.
Thurso has hostels and B&Bs there is also a Pub and camping area at Bettyhill, Tounge has a hostel and B&Bs.

I cycled from John O Groats across the North coast of Scotland a few years ago.  I cant remember in detail but I do recollect that in general the gradients were quite benign.  In fact, surprisingly flat for a coastal area.

The weather will play a big role in the perceived difficulty of the trip.  It could be a pleasure or a nightmare depending on what you encounter.

The north of Scotland is probably as remote as you get in the British Isles.  Plan your stops / food carefully.  
I stayed in youth hostels on my trip.  They are basic but clean and well located up there.  Worth looking in to as they generally have storage for bicycles and drying rooms etc.
