Retiring end of this year and entering new phase.....straw poll from you all please as to which place to go. I'm sure there are others, and others that may be better, but this is the choice. I've researched both school's webs and their programs seem similar and God willin' I'm going, so if you please fellow pedaller's.  Enjoy the voyage.....Mark of the Dalton Boys

Sorry Mark... were you drinking when you posted this? I have admired your posts in the past, but this one is not clear to me.

I retired 6 days ago, and will start an ACA Expedition in 2 more days, so I might have some worthy comment. I will be looking for a part time job after my expedition.

Are you looking just at the mechanic's courses, or something more such as framebuilding?  I know a number of mechanics who have gone to UBI and a few framebuilders who went there also.  All have spoken very highly of it.  I can't think of anybody off hand who went to Barnetts.  I haven't been to either personally; I learned framebuilding from Tim Paterek.

Based on discussions only, (no first-hand experience) UBI sounds the "better" option.

Sorry folks - obviously brain cramp on my part occurred, sorry...the actual question would be which Mechanics course of the two....United bicycle Institute, or Barnett Bicycle Institute? The choice is only these two and I'm positive there are others, and others perhaps better. Hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day week-end. Regards....Mark of the Dalton Boys

I attended UBI for the Professional Repair and Shop Operation Course and was thoroughly satisfied. The instructors were A+++. Ashland, Oregon is a fantastic
little town with excellent cycling in the area.

No real specific knowledge of Barnett's.

To all respondents...thank-you so much for your input. It does mean a lot as I read in this forum data, presented by some very "cracker jack" bicycle mechanics. My goal is to be very good at least in all aspects except frame building...not a designer...just want to diagnose, and repair. Again, thanks all....Regards  Mark of the Dalton Boys
