Email alerts for road conditions
« on: August 01, 2006, 06:04:45 pm »
Has adventure cycling created a method of sending out a email to anyone traveling if a natural event prevents the route from being followed?
Some people carry cellphones or pocketmail email devices. Some visit email accounts when in a town for the night for weather updates or whatever resupplies are needed. Any thoughts on this??

Currently, our system of informing cyclists of road closures and possible detours is through our online addenda: http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/addenda.cfm

Also, as the fire season progresses each summer, we have a page listing road closures and detours due to fires. This year's page is here: http://www.adventurecycling.org/news/2006fireinfo.cfm
We keep this separate from the addenda because the situation changes almost daily yet only lasts a brief period in total duration.

I've posed the email idea here in the office and it's been added to a long list of things we'd like to take a look at for future improvements.

Any one else have suggestions along this line? What do you think?
