I am a female planning to leave on a 2 year bike trip on Mountain bikes with my husband and a few other men, leaving in May or June from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the tip of S. America.  Need to know if other women have done long trips like this and what type of female issues/concerns that I need to be aware of.  Any advice?

You might want to read the accounts from Kristin Sullivan at http://www.earthcycle.org. She cycled solo from Fairbanks to Ushuaia in 2004-2005. Her website is both inspirational and informative. Good luck with your preparations, and have fun on the trip.

Miles from Nowhere is a book written by Barbara Savage, who went on a 2 year ride with her husband around the world.  Her book tells not only of the social challenges she faced, but also the challenges the relationship faced as well.  An excellent read.

Bettina Selby is an excellent writer who has taken many long bicycle trips. I just finished "Riding to Jerusalem" where she rides alone in the Middle East retracing pilgrims' journeys from the Middle Ages. She finds a great deal of support from the women she meets along the way.

We must ride light and swift.  It is a long road ahead.

You might want to check out downtheroad.org Tim & Cindie Travis have been on the road for a few years now. Maybe drop her a line with anything specific.

Well, let me add one more website worth visiting: www.bankerbiker.de. Julia & Stefan are in Alaska right now, about six months into a world tour. They're a nice couple. You may cross paths with them as you head south.
