dualsport mountain bike touring...

I'm curious as to whether or not other people have thought of and/or
done this sort of ride.

What is it?  My basic conception is riding the bike to the trailhead, doing
some bikepacking and then riding home.  I've been inspired by my recent
interests in dualsport motorcycle touring and in ultralight touring such as
Aaron Teasdale's trips (http://www.adventurecycling.org/features/
ultralightpackinglist.cfm).  My biggest motivation is from a sustainability
point of view.  No dino fuel on the trip.

Any thoughts?

Hey there.  Where I live in Wa state.  We have many routes that havent been traveled by car in 50 years.  Very wooded, up and down.  There is a small group of us that take off once a month, on a weekend ride, and take off on a mountain bike tour trip through the mountains.  Most of the time we try to stick to 40 to 60 miles for the whole weekend.  Our main rule is NO PAVEMENT.  Most of the time I even tow my bob yak trailer, but often the switchbacks are too short so I just backpack it.  If this sounds like what you want to do, and would like more information, such as gear or miles per hour estimates, drop me a line.  Thank you.  Good luck, Craig
