My wife and I fly a 1959 Bonanza. Recently we have acquired two Bike Fridays. Now we can leave the seats in when we travel.
We used to have to remove the rear seats and then install the bikes carefully in the empty space.
We have flown to many airports and then bicycled from there. Often, we have camped beside the Bonanza the first night, then off we go the next few days.
One of our favorite places to fly is Denver. You can land at Centennial airport or Front Range and ride into Denver from there.
Custer South Dakota is another nice place to fly into. The airport is literally on the Mickelson Trail. This is a 120 mile north/south trail in South Dakota.
If you want you can also fly into Washington, Missouri, bike into Washington, take Amtrak to Sedalia and then ride the KATY trail back to your airplane.
We have also flown into Sequim, Washington. Then ride to Port Angles, take a ferry boat to Victoria, then a ferry to San Juan Island, then a ferry to anacortes, then ride about 40 miles and take a ferry to Port Townsend then bike back to Sequim.
I could go on and on, but as you can see, we believe that bikes and airplane work very well together.

Oh, I live in SW Wisconsin (OVS). We have lots of trail around here. We also can ride 30 miles on county roads and only see 30 cars.
The tandem seems nice, but my wife and I agree that being on the same bike is not that appealing. Besides, two bikes can carry more stuff than one, although at a slower pace.
