safety tip - interstates
« on: February 10, 2008, 01:20:17 pm »
For those planning to ride on interstates (like on the Lewis and Clark route in Oregon), the safest way to deal with freeway exits is to ride off at the exit and then ride right back on. That way you are always on the shoulder. If you don't want to do that, at least ride off at the exit a little ways and stop and make sure everything is clear before proceeding. Never ride directly across a freeway exit - remember that freeway traffic is usually moving at 65 mph or more, and what appears a speck in your rear view mirror can be on you very quickly. If the motorist needs to take the same exit you're riding across, well, you get the picture.
