Car parking along ACA routes

I've never done any self contained touring, but the idea appeals to me. Rather than traveling the entire length of the UGRR, for instance, I would like to do it in sections of four or five days out and then turn around and ride back.

My question is, if others have done these kinds of short tours, where do you park your car for a period of eight to ten days?

I always ask at the police station or, in a small town, at the general store. Folks are happy to suggest a good spot and glad to know who the car belongs to.

I've done a couple of multi-day tours and we've always stayed in a motel at the start/finish at least one of the days, either at the beginning or end of the tour. We've been able to leave our car(s) in the motel parking lot with the owner's permission.
