My Apologies
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:17:09 pm »
I wish to apologize for not being timely in saying thank you to all who responded to my query about recumbant bicycles. My computer was down for awhile. To all who replied a belated thank you is in order.
My diabetic neuropathy causes muscle weaknes as well as interfering with my balance. That is why I was wondering about a recumbant for long distance touring.
The two whell trailer adding to the bike's stablity is the kind of informatioin I was looking for.
If any one else has any other information of any kind I would be most grateful.
Again thanks to all who replied.

I ride with similar issues as well as limited vision.  I found that a recumbent trike has made my riding much easier, especially while touring.  I have panniers for shorter rides and add a BOB for more capacity.  I love being able to do a long climb and not being forced to maintain 4 mph to keep my balance.  When I am tired I can slow down or pull into a shady spot and rest right on my trike.  No need to find a comfy place to sit, i am already in it.  Recumbents are a very comfortable alternative for touring and getting around.

Please, get to a shop and get on a trike!  You'll love it and never look back.   Be aware that many (most?) come with gearing that is too high for real touring.  Talk about this with the dealer.  Get an 11/34 in the rear and a good 26 or lower up front.  A three speed rear hub is a good option, too.

Please, report back on your experiences!
