Saskatoon to Thunderbay

My wife are currently working our way across Canada- 3 weeks at a time. Having just completed the second leg to Saskatoon, we are looking for info on what we will find further east of there. I know, lots of flat stuff on the prairies, but we are wondering about the route after leaving Manitoba and entering Ontario. Any feedback is appreciated. We will be ( have been) primarily camping, with the odd motel/b&b/truckstop thrown in.

There must be someone from Winnipeg out there, or Thunder Bay, or somewhere around there who knows the routes.

Pretty much from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay there are two options:
1)Take the transcanada highway via Kenora and Dryden
2) Take highway 11 via Fort frances

I have not cycled either and have only driven the transcan, but have seen many people cycling that route.

If my memory serves me correctly the transcan has parts with paved shoulders and stretches without. The area west of Dryden is also touted as having an extremely high accident ratio for cars, how that translates to cycling safety I don't know.
I wish I could be of more help.

Cycling Across Canada book written by major cycling clubs across Canada strongly recommends not taking Trans Canada east of Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie.  Alternates suggested is to Fort Frances and US route, fly, bus or take a ferry.  I plan to use the US route.

There is a trip report of my ride in that area a couple of years ago.

Check out my Cross Canada trip on the touring pages of my website.
