Great Divide - When?

Hi,

I plan to ride the Great Divide from Denver to Missoula. What is the best time in the year to do this? Is snow possible on longer parts of the trail in September already?

Can you recommend to ride this route with bags in the front and back or is a trailer the first choice?

Are there bears in the area?
