Winter Park, CO roads???
« on: June 19, 2004, 01:40:06 am »
My wife (a non-cyclist) has organized a family vacation in the Winter Park , CO area next month. Being a flatlander from IL, I'm anxious to take my road bike and tackle some serious climbs. All of the info on the web that I find when I search for 'cycling' and 'Winter Park' is of the Mtn Biking variety, I plan to sample a little of that too, but as a hard-core roadie, I'm really hoping to find some nice routes around the area. Anyone out there familar enough with that area to advise where the good roads are for climbing?

THANKS!

I did ride the rockies a couple of years ago.  Much fun.  The route this year went though Winter park I think.  I am going back to co to do some climbs.   Look up Mt. evans you can ride up a 14k.  There is an organized ride up it.  I am also thinking about rockie mountain national park and a couple of loops there.

My wife and I just returned from a 6-week visit to CO. We road-bike and lived in a tent.  We covered a lot of the state, concentrated solely on CO.

Several rides we'd planned proved to be too windy for Marilyn, who weighs about 110.  Several were 6 miles up with another such "hill" at the bottom.  But we managed to discover some good rides.

I hope you planned well.  Would like to share experiences.  By the way, as a result, we did find a lot to do and several enjoyable rides.  There is an excellent book Marilyn found during our visit that gave some terrific suggestions -- just can't recall the title at present.
