Which way to Oregon

I'm on the Northern Tier route, heading west (tonight I'll hit Fargo.) I wish to get to Eugene, Oregon. (I'm attending University of Oregon in the fall.)

Should I drop down to Missoula, MT and get on the Lewis and Clark route? Or head to the end of the Northern Tier and then south on the West Coast route?

If I do the former, how should I get from the Nothern Tier to Missoula? If the latter, how to acquire the maps without going to Missoula?

If you choose the L&C route, the two routes run together for a ways(before and after Williston, ND). Maps 4 & 5 of the L&C set will get you from Williston to Missoula. At Williston just switch to the L&C maps.

Adventure cycling will probably mail them general delivery to any post office on your route.

Another option would be to switch to the transam route at Missoula. (This route goes through Eugene.) You would need maps 1 to 3 of the transam set for that. If you're tryng to go Coast to Coast you would still need to ride from Eugene to Florence (a distance of about 70 miles)

If you decide to come through Missoula, your best bet is to go to Whitefish, MT then head south along Hwy 83 and west on hwy 200 into Missoula. Do not use Hwy 93 in hopes of cutting mileage, it is a very bad road for cycling. See you if you come here. Let me know if you need any more assistance --Larry Diskin

What's the total mileage on the transam from Missoula to Eugene? (I just need a rough estimate.) Thanks for all the info thus far.

About 760. My records say 768 miles Missoula to Coburg, just north of Eugene.
