Looking for a good route from Las Vegas north to Battle Mountain.  Any suggestions?

Hi, Bryan!  I read about your wish to ride this country over on BROL.  I know Nevada pretty well, and I think I've got a route for you.  You'll want to somehow get out of the main part of town and east to route 147, the farther east the better.  Your goal is to hook up with 166/169 heading NE along the shores of Lake Mead--really beautiful; avoid weekends if at all possible to avoid boaters headed for the lake.  Take 169 all the way out to Hwy 15 and back track a little to 168, which you'll take over to  Hwy 93 N.  Follow this until you can begin working W. along Hwy 375 to connect to Hwy 6 and Tonopah.  From there it's straight N. on 376 to Austin, then 305 right up to Battle Mtn.--really sweet riding.

Overall, this route should provide some super quiet, remote, beautiful riding--if you like desert country.  As you must know, you'll have long stretches between supplies and water, so be prepared.  Since the southern section in particular will be pretty warm, you should have the ability to carry a couple of gallons at a time, maybe a bit more if it's really hot. You'll have a few summits to grunt over as you work your way west, but once you really settle in for the northern stretches, you'll have lots of pretty fast riding, discounting possible headwinds.  I wish I could join you.  Have a great tour!
